Da Vinci’s Mary Magdalene
I like Mary Magdalene. She is my favourite bad girl of the bible. And arguably not a bad girl at all since she is a saint. She is often the muse for many pieces of religious artwork and unlike the Virgin Mary (who you can always pick out because she gets a bigger crown than Jesus), the sexual undertones are often fairly obvious. She’s sort of the pin-up girl of the new testament.
So I have decided to take a picture of this “other” Mary whenever I see her. These two pictures are both from the Cathedral in Burgos where I spent some time today. It was beautiful, but afterwards I had kind of OD’d on religious iconography. The antidote is a good cold sangria.
